For 30 years, Scylla has been a firm favourite in the Leolux collection. We're celebrating that anniversary with a special edition. Especially for the occasion, designer Mae Engelgeer created a beautiful fabric with an intriguing pattern: Disrupted Weave. This is Scylla by Mae Engelgeer: an exclusive version of a timeless icon.

The fabric: Disrupted Weave
This special anniversary edition of Scylla features the exclusive, luxurious 'Disrupted Weave' fabric. The fabric was specially designed for this occasion by textile designer Mae Engelgeer. Her design brings together several seemingly contrasting elements in a fascinating balance:
"The design of this fabric is inspired by the rhythm of traditional weaving and the structure of a check pattern. At the same time, it offers a new interpretation of both elements, radically shifting them out of balance. The enlarged graphic pattern makes a statement with a powerful rhythm that remains constantly present, a spontaneous handcrafted character in a soft, inviting textile."

Mae Engelgeer, experimenting with textiles
Textile design has always been central to the work of Dutch designer Mae Engelgeer, from her secondary school years through to her studies at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute and the Sandberg Instituut. Since opening her own studio in 2013, she has continued to develop her curiosity for the craft by experimenting within the existing boundaries of textile production, giving traditional techniques a modern twist.
Scylla, a firm favourite
The Scylla armchair made its debut in the Leolux collection in 1996. Thanks to its open, balanced design and understated elegance, this creation by Gerard Vollenbrock grew to become one of our most popular models. Scylla combines subtle simplicity and beautiful details in an understated way. Take, for example, the stylish frame, the details in the gently curved armrests and the small notch in the cushion where the back and seat meet. All carefully considered details that don't seek attention, but make all the difference on a second look. In this way, Gerard Vollenbrock's design has won over tens of thousands of admirers over the past thirty years.
